What is Saju?

Saju (“four pillars”) is Korea's 1,000-year-old birth chart. It maps the exact moment you were born — year, month, day, and hour — into a portrait of your character, your timing, and the way you move through the world. It predates Myers-Briggs by nine centuries, and unlike a horoscope, no two charts are the same.

The four pillars

Each pillar is a snapshot of one slice of your birth moment. Together they form your eight characters (palja) — literally where the name comes from.

01

Year pillar

Your roots — family, the era you were born into, the version of you the world meets first.

02

Month pillar

Your engine — career, ambition, the social arena where your energy actually plays out.

03

Day pillar

Your core self — the 'day master.' This is the you behind closed doors, and your partner in love.

04

Hour pillar

Your inner world and later life — instincts, private drives, the chapter that opens with age.

Five elements, yin & yang

Every pillar is built from the five elements in their yin or yang form. The balance between them — what you have too much of, what you're missing — is what gives a chart its personality.

🌱WoodGrowth, vision
🔥FireDrive, expression

It's math, not vibes

A Saju chart isn't guessed — it's calculated. Your four pillars come from the classical Chinese calendar, anchored to ipchun (the solar start of spring) rather than the lunar new year, exactly as traditional practitioners do it. Feed in the same birth date and hour and you'll get the same 8 characters every single time — no randomness, no “sign of the week.”

With 60 day-master archetypes, ten gods, and the interactions between pillars, there are over 500,000 distinct profiles. That's why a Saju reading can feel uncannily specific where a 12-sign horoscope feels generic.

What it is — and what it isn't

It is
  • Deterministic math — same birth data, same chart, every time
  • A 1,000-year-old framework still used across Korea before big decisions
  • A mirror for self-understanding and timing
It isn't
  • Fortune-telling or a fixed prophecy
  • A 12-bucket horoscope that lumps millions together
  • A replacement for your own judgment

We build Palja for reflection, not prediction. It tells you what you're working with — the rest is yours.

We translate the classics into plain English.

Palja runs the traditional calculation, then writes it up as chapters you can actually read — your character, work, love, money, and the chapter you're in right now. Start with a free preview. No card, no email.
